Initial MEAL PlanR Training

Intended Learners

Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who are new to MEAL PlanR. Practitioners interested in this training may have some experience with feeding intervention or have some understanding of the MEAL PlanR approach, but a background in feeding is not a requirement. 

Components of Training

-  Virtual 6-hour live workshop introducing the MEAL PlanR approach and treatment manual.


-  Corresponding BCBA CEUs for participation in the training.


-  Access to the MEAL PlanR manual upon completion of training.  


Note: All attendees are expected to attend the online workshop in its entirety to be eligible for continuing education credits and MEAL PlanR manual. Attendees must also complete and receive a passing score (80% or greater) on a knowledge quiz and provide feedback on the training through a course evaluation to receive a certificate of completion.   

Learning Objectives

-  Describe the three stages of the MEAL PlanR intervention and identify role of therapist and caregiver during each stage.


-  List the central components of good meal hygiene and targets for improving parent-child interaction during meals.


-  Explain antecedent-based methods for introducing new food and incorporating choice-based presentations into treatment. 


-  Identify the sequence of parent training and other methods for generalizing treatment gains into the home setting.

Day 1 –

Introduction to MEAL PlanR (1 hour)

Establishing Good Meal Hygiene (1 hour)

Building the Therapeutic Food List and My Plate Guidelines (1 hour)


Day 2 –

Methods for Introducing New Foods (1.5 hour)

Parent Training and Supporting Generalization at Home (45 minutes)

General Discussion, Questions, and Wrap-up (45 minutes)
